Seit ihrer Zeit als Studentin ist die Improvisationsmusikerin Tam Thi Pham an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (HfMT) mit der Hamburg Open Online University verbunden. Heute unterrichtet sie selbst das vietnamesische Saiteninstrument đàn bầu an der HfMT – unterstützt durch die HOOU. Im Interview erzählt Tam von einem unvergesslichen Slam-Erlebnis, ihrem fachlichen Wachstum und ihrer Vision einer globalen Lernplattform.

Was war deine schönste oder eindrücklichste Erinnerung an die HOOU?

Eine meiner schönsten Erinnerungen ist definitiv die Teilnahme am Science-and-Art Slam. Das war eine fantastische Erfahrung, bei der ich mein Projekt über das Instrument đàn bầu auf eine spielerische und kreative Weise präsentieren konnte. Es hat richtig Spaß gemacht, ein neues Präsentationsformat auszuprobieren und dadurch einen leichteren Zugang zum Publikum zu finden. Das Ganze war nicht nur inspirierend, sondern auch sehr bereichernd.

Was hast du persönlich aus deiner Zeit mit der HOOU mitgenommen?

Durch die Unterstützung der HOOU konnte ich mein Wissen über die đàn bầu deutlich vertiefen – musikalisch, aber auch in Bezug auf die kulturellen und historischen Hintergründe. Ich bin sehr dankbar für die Möglichkeit, meine Projekte und mich weiterzuentwickeln. Was damals während meines Studiums an der HfMT begann, hat mich wachsen lassen: Heute lehre ich selbst đàn bầu an der HfMT – die HOOU hat dies entscheidend mitgeprägt.

Wie siehst du die Zukunft der HOOU in zehn Jahren?

Ich denke, dass selbstbestimmtes digitales Lernen in Zukunft weiter an Bedeutung gewinnen wird. In zehn Jahren könnte die HOOU eine international anerkannte Plattform sein – ein offener, innovativer Lernort für Menschen weltweit. Mit ihrem offenen Ansatz und ihrer inhaltlichen Vielfalt kann die HOOU Menschen global verbinden und ein echtes Lebenslanges Lernen ermöglichen.

Since her time as a student at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HfMT), improvisational musician Tam Thi Pham has been connected to the Hamburg Open Online University. Today, she teaches the Vietnamese string instrument đàn bầu at HfMT – supported by the HOOU. In this interview, she talks about an unforgettable slam experience, her professional growth, and her vision for a global, open learning platform.

To mark HOOU’s 10th anniversary, we’re speaking with companions and pioneers – individuals who have shaped, developed, and supported the initiative and platform over the years. One of them is improvisational musician Tam Thi Pham from HfMT.

What is your favourite memory of the HOOU?

One of my favorite memories with HOOU was participating in the Science-and-Art Slam. It was a fantastic experience that allowed me to present my project đàn bầu in a fun and engaging way. I really appreciated the chance to explore a new presentation format, which helped me connect with the audience on a more accessible and light-hearted level. It was both inspiring and rewarding to share my work in such a creative environment.

What have you personally taken away from your time or involvement with the HOOU?

Thanks to the support from HOOU, I was able to deepen my knowledge of the đàn bầu — not only in terms of musical practice but also in its cultural and historical context. I’m truly grateful for the opportunities HOOU provided to develop my projects and grow professionally. What started during my time as a student at HfMT has since evolved — today, I’m proud to be a docent for đàn bầu at HfMT. HOOU has played a meaningful role in that journey.

If you had to predict the future of the HOOU ten years from now, what would it look like?

I believe self-directed digital learning will continue to grow in popularity and importance as a key way of gaining knowledge. I envision HOOU becoming an internationally recognized platform, known worldwide as a valuable and accessible resource for learning across a wide range of subjects. With its open approach and focus on innovation, HOOU has the potential to empower even more learners globally, connecting communities and fostering lifelong learning.
